A New Earth: Awakening to Your Life’s Purpose

Um…

How do I say this without sounding UNenlightened?

Meh, this book wasn’t anything great. Mostly I read along saying “Yep. Yep. Ok. Yep. True. Yep. Um. Sure. Ok.” I should have known better, tis a #1 best-selling self-help book promoted by Queen Who Loves Dr. Phil, Oprah.

In general I’ve been catching up with mindfulness literature, but not so much in the form of best-selling novels. The Wizard I went to last year HIGHLY recommended all things mindful for my life. With that said, the book was a nice reminder. I’m on my way. Really.

Blurb time.

“I am the awareness that is aware that there is an attachment.” That’s the beginning of the transformation of consciousness.

“Love and do what you will,” said St. Augustine. Words cannot get much closer to the Truth than that.

“There is nothing either good or bad, but thinking makes it so.”

Whenever you are in a negative state there is something in you that wants the negativity, that perceived it as pleasurable, or that believes it will get you what you want…if you can be aware at that moment that there is something in you that take pleasure in it or believes it has a useful purpose, you are becoming more aware of the ego directly. The moment this happens, your identity has shifted from ego to awareness.

The present moment is the field on which the game of life happens. It cannot happen anywhere else. Once you have made peace with the present moment, see what happens, what you can do or choose to do, or rather what life does through you. There are three words that convey the secret of the art of living, the secret of all success and happiness: One. With. Life. being one with life is being one with Now. You then realize that you don’t live your life, but life lives you.

Accepting means you allow yourself to feel whatever it is you are feeling at the moment. It is part of the is-ness of the Now. You can’t argue with what is.

Acknowledging the good that is already in your life is the foundation for all abundance. The fact is: Whatever you think the world is withholding from you, you are withholding from the world. You are withholding it because deep down you think you are small and that you have nothing to give.

Being aware of your breathing takes attention away from thinking and creates space. It is one way of generating consciousness. Being aware of your breath forces you into the present moment- the key to all inner transformation. Whenever you are conscious of the breath, you are absolutely present.

Whatever you cannot enjoy doing, you can at least accept that this is what you have to do. Acceptance means: for now, this is what this situation, this moment, requires me to do, and so I do it willingly.
