Fall Foliage Train Rides in WNY

Despite the recent weather report and the hum of still running air-conditioners at the end of September, Fall actually arrived according to the calendar last week. Around town a few brave trees are beginning to show their colors, a bit of red here, some orange there…soon our world will be wrapped around with autumn splendor. This time of year a drive anywhere through our beautiful neck of the woods in the center of Western New York allows for prime leaf peeping out your car window. But why not do something different this year? How about letting someone else do the driving and make it a relaxing adventure on a train?

The Attica and Arcade Railroad located at 278 Main St. Arcade, New York offers Fall Foliage Train rides on Friday, Saturday and Sunday during the month of October. Enjoy a two and a half hour round trip excursion aboard the last operating steam train in New York State. Outside your window you will view the colors of the season while enjoying the ride through the countryside and farmlands of our region. The train stops at Currier Depot for a self-guided tour of the museum. Concessions and restrooms are available on the train.

In addition to the Fall Foliage rides the Attica and Arcade Railroad is offering a Wine Tasters Ride on October 7th, Ale on the Rails on October 14th, a WNY Senior Fall Train Ride on Wednesday, October 18th and Halloween Train Rides on October 28th and 29th.

The Buffalo Cattaraugus & Jamestown Scenic Railway offers Fall Train Rides on October 7-8th and October 14-15th boarding from Zittle’s Country Market, located at 4415 Southwestern Boulevard, Hamburg, New York or Artcraft Toy Trains located at 4 Scott Street, Hamburg New York. This 90 minute round-trip train ride explores the Eighteen-Mile Creek at Water Valley. Concessions are available to purchase during the ride on the food service car.

The Medina Railroad Museum located at 530 West Avenue, Medina, New York offers Fall Foliage Train Rides on October 7th, 14th, 18th, 21st and 22nd. This two hour ride takes you through the wooded scenery along the Erie Canal offering a leisurely, old-fashioned way to experience the beauty of autumn in Western New York.

The Medina Railroad Museum also has a Booze and Brews Weekend on October 7th and a family-friendly Jumpkin Pumpkin Jamboree and adult only Terror on the Tracks on October 28th.

The Rochester & Genesee Valley Railroad Museum located at 282 Rush Scottsville Road, Rush, New York offers several Fall Foliage Excursion on October 7th and Pumpkin Patch Train Rides   on October 14-15th, 21-22nd and 29-30th with the cooperation of the Livonia, Avon & Lakeville Railroad. The mile-and-a-half ride travels through the rural heart of the Genesee Valley aboard a restored freight train caboose to a Pumpkin Patch where every child can pick a small pumpkin to take home. Visitors can also enjoy free apple cider and a petting zoo.
