Fried bologna for the win!

A group of friends and I went out to lunch the other day to Athens Family Restaurant and they had FRIED BOLOGNA with GRILLED ONIONS on the menu. Now I suppose lots of restaurants have this item but for some reason Info and I NEEDED TO KNOW MORE ABOUT THIS BOLOGNA. It sounded delicious.

So, when the waitress came over, my friend Info somehow asked with a completely serious and straight face.

“Do you slice your bologna thick?”

The waitress didn’t skip a beat (nor did she think we were odd…) she thought the bologna looked thick, but went back to the kitchen to check. When she told us she was right, we ordered a sandwich to share.ed thick, but went back to the kitchen to check. When she told us she was right, we ordered a sandwich to share.

“This sandwich is life changing.”

“I can’t swallow this last bite. It’s too good. I want it to last forever.

Seriously, it was AMAZING. And I’ve been thinking of it ever since.

How on earth did such a simple childhood pleasure that is likely on menus all over Western New York creep it’s way into our lives at the exact right time we needed it? I’ll never know. But man I’ll never forget that first bite.

I can only hope that my next fried bologna sandwich, sliced thick, will taste half as delicious.
