Definitely been in a funk the last few days…I have been since getting my test results back.

MEH.

I woke up after 2pm. (In fairness, I went to bed at 4am, but that’s still 10 hours of sleep.) AND I’m currently sooooooooooooooooo tired and have NO REASON TO BE. Sigh.

It snowed ALL DAY. I decided to ignore the snow and try to get my hands dirty and do some transplanting of seedlings into peat pots. Playing garden almost ALWAYS lightens my mood, but…nope.

Seeing the crazy growth from our Shiitake Mushroom blocks did lift my spirits though! I bought a package of 8 from Field & Forest and we set them out a few days ago. When I looked this afternoon the one block in the upper right corner was FLUSH with mushrooms ready to pick, so I did!

After removing the plastic wrap, picking the fresh mushrooms  and flipping the blocks over, they ended up looking like this.

Holy Shiitake Mushrooms!

A pound and a half from just that quick picking. SUCCESS! I’m really looking forward to reaping the rewards from this purchase. Indoor mushroom blocks tend to be pricey. Fun to grow, taste delicious fresh but not really economical when buying a few here and there. This is the first time trying Shiitake, we’ve done only grown oyster in the past.

Looking forward to many more shrooms. And no more snow in May.
