Garden 2012

My husband might be obsessed with his new Hot Rod, but I spend an equal amount of time obsessed about our GARDEN.

We still have to measure and purchase the right amount of garden hose (soaker for the tomatoes and sprinkers for the rest) but in the meantime, I spend about an hour each night outdoors watering. So freaking peaceful. But for the occasional mosquito, but the VERY BEAUTIFUL lightening bugs floating around make up for the annoying bites.

I’ve been weeding, mulching, organic pest removing, soil enriching and adding more plants every other day. I’m all over the interwebs reading everything I can about gardens. And pinning lots of articles too!

Our garden got a late start really because of Weber Wedding Weekend and all, but I do think we will find success with most everything we planted, except the cabbage and broccoli transplants which failed miserably. I didn’t get them in the ground fast enough.

Right now, the cucumbers, eggplant, watermelon, potatoes, onions and carrots are lacking growth but I see them trying really hard to sprout. Our beans, corn, sunflowers, pumpkins, squash, spinach, peas, radishes, beets, tomatoes, peppers, lettuce and kale are going great. Just this week I planted more yellow beans, peas, pumpkins, cucumbers, eggplant, onion and cauliflower. AND I have more seeds for another late planting of spinach, lettuce, broccoli and parsnips.

Little Brother had RIDICULOUS success with his outrageous tomatoes this year from seed and had about 30 extra plants to give away/sell! We ended up with about 15 of those in addition to the dozen we planted from the store. Our tomato seeds FAILED this year unlike last year. So weird.

And knowing me, I won’t stop there. Been researching and planning all our FALL crops—fruit/nut trees, garlic, flower bulbs…and I just know I’ll find something else to throw in the ground at the last minute hoping for a reward.

My goodness I love this life. Can I please do this forever and never go back to *work* again?

Whatcha talkin' bout Willis?
