Last weekend Mark and I headed out to Montréal, Quebec for a long weekend. The ride took about 6.5 hours, not too bad! We have friends out there, who study Wing Chun with the Northeast Wing Chun Student Association.

I’ve become friends with Alex’s Wing Chun Widow, Carine and we sort of plotted the details of getting together since they are always coming to Rochester to visit, I thought it was time to go to see them for a change.

Away we went!

Once we arrived, it made me smile greatly to see that the decorations in the home of Carine and her Alex have a lot in common with our home. Bamboo. Chinese Calligraphy. Knives and Swords (although Mark does not have nearly as many knives or anything like this super large sword.)

Oh, and a cat named Mango too, who looks a lot like Simba Cat.

So anyways…between a packed schedule of sightseeing and Wing Chun we decided to hit the most important part of the city first.

Alex drove us downtown to experience our first real POUTINE! You see, I had poutine before in Toronto, but that’s “not real poutine.” Anything with cheese, french fries and gravy is going to be my favorite food ever, how can it get any better?

Oh, the options. The options make it better. So many options. (And all in French, but I was sure able to translate bacon, sausage and onions without much of a problem and that’s what I ordered, and it’s still likely digesting a week later.)

Mmmmm. Poutine! And can I just tell you that the cheese is what makes it REAL POUTINE. Cheese curds. Not cheese sauce, but curds! Heaven (and heartattack) on a plate. Sooo good.

Mark opted for the always classic? (um, never heard of!) ELVIS POUTINE.

And as you can see in the above picture, Rainbow Pegasus is now an International Traveler…

Alex and Carine treated Rainbow Pegasus with graciousness, despite his obnoxious American accent in the “French” side of Montréal. And despite the fact that he told me to steal the famous best poutine restaurant menu. Bad, bad RP.

After the stomach settling delight, we decided to hike it up the mountain to get a very, very, very chilly look of the view of the city.

Of course, after the walk we headed straight for coffee to defrost. I had the most delicious Baklava Latte (with an extra shot of espresso.)

Sunday we headed down to Vieux Montreal, the old part of the City, tourist trap 😉

Such lovely buildings, I will have to spend more time there our next visit. Many art galleries and shops and restaurants but just a few pictures, the night came quickly…

Merci de la belle visite!
