Blog Personality? Aw, man…I know I haven’t been super positive lately, it’s been a rough month.

What the hell is my blog’s personality? All Things of course, but what exactly does that mean?

All I am is me. Is that good enough? Read on…

To create a blog that attracts others, you need to integrate the following points into your blog’s philosophy:

Be Passionate and Positive

Ok, this is me most of the time, but I am also really, really me on this blog and I can’t be positive all the time. But I have to say, I like my ranty posts very much on days that they surface.

Expect the Best of People

With blogging and bloggers, this works on two angles. First is your approach to networking – how you interact with fellow bloggers, readers, journalists, sales reps, etc. Second is through your blog and how you treat your readers – whether you appreciate them and encourage them to do better, or whether you talk down to them, insult their intelligence and expect them to fail.

Well, duh. I try to do this with ALL THINGS in life, not just blogging. Next…

Share Yourself

Um, yeah. No problem there. In fact “give first” seems to be my motto for living and sometimes it’s hard to remember to take time out for me. Sharing myself has never been a problem,

Self-Analysis

Sigh…why does this article not leave me feeling charismatic and positive? I like my blog. I like being me. I sometimes wish I could give more to my blog, but sometimes I’m just too exhausted to do that. I can read an excellent article in the New Yorker and put it on my list of “things to blog” and then they day passes and a week passes and then I find my list crumpled up to 1,000 other lists left unrealized. (I’m not exaggerating when I say 1,000, I have a paper and pen with me at all times.)

Sometimes I desperately wish I can pour out more of my personal feelings on my blog, but I have to remember…I’m a public figure. As crazy as that sounds, it’s true. My family reads my blog. My boyfriend reads my blog. My ex-boyfriends read my blog. My co-workers read my blog. I’m out there for the world to see. So I MUST censor myself at times. During those times I will occasionally put up a password protected post, so readers out there who I don’t know can ask for access, because I want people to read. I want people to share and give advice. But I might not want, oh Mark to know exactly what I wrote in a fit of venting, or Mark’s mom. Or my SVP. Or a future employer. Because all these people have access…

Othermindedness. I think I have that part down. But what else am I missing, my gut-check is telling me I need more critical thinking posts. Reviews of books. Thoughts on politics…writing samples (GULP!) all those things you once could find more of at All Things Jennifer, that you get in conversation but not as much on the blog anymore.

What do you think?
