Snow, Blood and Tacos.

First of all—what a FABULOUS winter day in the city of Buffalo for the FLURRIOUS FESTIVAL!Let it snow! Let it snow! Let it snow!

Ok, that said…this afternoon I ventured out with my boots, penguin hat and a smile (I LOVE THIS SNOW!!) to give blood at the Lafayette Presbyterian Church at the UNYTS blood drive.

Bled X baby! With a name like that I HAD to give, right?

On the way to the church I saw an interesting sign at the Wilson Farms…wait, that’s not the blood drive up a block, that would be a competing Blood Drive with the Red Cross!

A little competition, eh? If I give at the Red Cross (where I have given for years and years…) they will give me a pound of Dunkin Donuts coffee. If I give at UNYTS they will give me a pound of Tim Horton’s coffee. Hmmmm.

I’ve been MEANING to start giving with UNYTS for sometime now. My Auntie Carroll who works with the blood bank tells me lots and lots of good stories about keeping it LOCAL. I’m glad I made it there today.

At Lloyds Taco Truck outside I ran into Kate and Nicole, my social media buddies. (Also YAY for Lloyd for braving it in the flustery/blustery weather!) Once inside I met Dan from You and Who and TedX and Ashleij from Twitter. A few minutes later Amy and Jen from the Co-op Board came in to give blood too! And then Christina! And Mike made an appearance. So many people, one little blood drive!

There’s Ashlei giving blood. Ashlei is in charge of UNYTS social media—hence if I were you I would go over there right now and become a friend on Facebook and Twitter.

My phlebotomist Mike was AWESOME. Very friendly, social and very good with the needle. I mean, I know I’m a darn good blood giver, I’m not afraid of the needle, I can use either arm—have great veins on both sides I’ve been told, I don’t faint at the sight of blood and my blood flows out fast. Of course as Mike told me this is a good thing while giving blood but a bad thing if I’m ever in a car accident. I shall try not to get myself in such a situation in the future.

I really should give blood more frequently since it is such an easy task for me and I know it isn’t for others. New resolution…I’m gonna make sure to give to UNYTS on a regular basis.

If only Lloyd’s Taco Truck could be at every blood drive…

What DO they make those chicken tacos out of that are so darn delicious?

All in all. A good day. I gave the *gift of life* (along with my girls) and got free coffee and a social adventure out of it too. Gotta love the Elmwood Village and WNY.
