BAD CHRISTMAS SONGS

The funny thing is, really. I do love Christmas music, America, Jesus and helping the poor/less fortunate. But these songs make me cringe. CRINGE!

1. Christmas in America by Pat Benatar
Post 9/11 “Quick let’s capitalize on a national tragedy just in time for Christmas!” Ugh. This song makes me want to move to Toronto. And everytime I hear it, (speaking of the devil…it is on right this second) her song *Shadows of the Night* creeps a little closer off my top 10 favorite 80’s songs of all time…

It’s Christmas in America
Let freedom ring
Let peace resound throughout the world
Especially on this day
It’s Christmas in America
God bless the USA

So keep your babies close tonight
Hug your husband, kiss your wife
Be thankful for this way of life,
We’re fortunate to share
And not forget the ones we’ve lost
Their memory lives on in our hearts
They’ll be forever in our thoughts
And always in our prayers
Unto this world a child is born
His gift was meant for everyone
The light of peace shines on and on
And never fades away
America, America indivisible we are
One nation under God
And that will never change

2. Dear Mr. Jesus

Wow. First I beat up on the flag waving Christmas song and now the child abuse song too? Some compassionate conservative I am…

Dear Mr. Jesus, I don’t understand
Why they took her mom and dad away
I know that they don’t mean to hit with wild and angry hands
Tell them just how big they are I pray

3. Christmas Shoes

And what can round up this perfect trio of exploitation of the season? How about a little song, NOT just about poverty…but death too?

He counted pennies for what seemed like years
Then the cashier said, “Son, there’s not enough here”
He searched his pockets frantically
Then he turned and he looked at me
He said Mama made Christmas good at our house
Though most years she just did without
Tell me Sir, what am I going to do,
Somehow I’ve got to buy her these Christmas shoes
