5 things most people don’t know about me!
1. I went to Allegheny College with the intent on being a Biology major. (Blame Mr. Sagar, I LOVED his class!) Yep. Cancer Genetics. I was going to find the cure! That lasted until about, oh 1st year 1st semester Chem class. My professor, Mr. Smith called me a scatterbrain because my first quiz grade was an A and my second-twenty seventh ones were D’s. (For the most part.) I hated Chemistry class. That D is still on my transcript today, I refused to take the class over.
2. I was not allowed to start Kindergarten early (something weird about cut off dates?) because I was not SOCIAL enough around children my own age- I didn’t attend preschool. Two years later, the district asked my parents to have me skip 1st grade and go into 2nd. My mother said no. The district asked the same thing when I moved up to 3rd grade. My mother said no. So for most of my elementary years, I went to the grade above me for reading and math class. It all evened out in Middle School. Not socialized enough. can you imagine?
3. I used to play classical music on my boom box and dance around the lawn doing “interpretive dance” routines. Um, no one in my family listened to classical music, or knew about dance. I have NO IDEA where this came from.
4. I had a FAKE senior year and a REAL senior year of college. My financial aid was messed up for my senior year and I was unable to go to school to finish my degree. I had to take a year off and work instead. During that year off, I lived, ON CAMPUS in a house that I had planned on living in anyway, and continued to play an active role in my sorority. However, I did not try out for the musical, Jesus Christ Superstar, because I was not technically a student. At the time I was crushed that I wouldn’t be graduating with “my class of 1996.” But staying that extra year brought me many, many amazing friendships that I am thankful for today.
5. My friend from High School Carrie and I pointed on a map to the place we were going to move to after graduating from college. I pointed to North Carolina. Three weeks later? We packed up her blue Beretta and without a job in place or a place to live…drove to Raleigh, NC. We couldn’t find a place to live without a job and we couldn’t get a job without a place to live. Lucky for us, Ruby Tuesday came to the rescue! AND we found a house with a landlord who was ready to move to Tennessee to take over some hotel, a six bedroom house with our very own inground pool and poolhouse! TOO CRAZY! A great experience in the end, however I could only stomach the state for a year. (No snow!)
