Damn. I was in my own little world for just a few moments and then I remembered real life. I’m having a really difficult time reconciling that real life is really really real. (Listening to the book The Stand by Stephen King is somewhat of a respite from the real world, who’da thunk it?)
I remember in school fearing my house would burn and my family die because we lacked an escape plan and meeting spot. JUST SAYIN’—energy supply chains, communication networks. Poof! Make a plan with your people. Get contact info on paper. Our houses are kindling.
I’ve had the song “Small Victories” by Ron Hawkins <my favourite singer songwriter of all time> on constant loop the past few weeks. “Small steps in the right direction make more sense than a thousand big ones in the wrong.”
- “Nothing is inevitable. Do not be alone and do not be dismayed. Find someone who is doing something you admire and join them.”
- “Raise your voices. Ring the alarm. Stop holding back. Show us that you understand the consequences of this moment. Get loud. Get angry.”
- “As bad as this “fucking nightmare” gets, it will awaken Americans to the truth about what has happened to this country — and what we must do to get it back on the track toward social justice, democracy, and widespread prosperity… Be well. Be safe. We will prevail.”
