New Year & New Jobs!
Monday, I put in notice at the Chamber of Commerce.
When I landed there two years ago, I had committed myself to the world of Real Estate. Just a short while later the opportunity to serve the community I live in called, I accepted the Chamber gig and moved forward with gusto.
But as anyone who works either 1. a part-time job or 2. for a nonprofit knows there’s no such thing as a part-time nonprofit job. While I very much enjoyed the work I was doing, I noticed I found myself saying “Thank you for thinking of me, but I can’t” or “Maybe, but…” or “I wish I could…” to offers of contract and freelance work. And I did not devote NEARLY enough time to growing my own business in real estate, just not enough hours in the day.
The past few months, HWMMS has been looking for work since his one-year contract will be up at the end of this month. While he was looking, I was looking. One of us had to have full-time paying employment going forward into the future.
I stumbled upon an ecommerce position. I interviewed. I felt good about the interview and the position, but I was hesitant to accept anything full-time. I sort of love the hodge-podge freelancing, contracting, part-time gigs I’ve established for myself.
The Universe agreed. It turns out the owner of the company was also hesitant to bring on someone full-time. BUT the two of us had the same idea-contract work. Ding ding ding!
In the beginning of the year, I started the e-commerce position working a few days a week in Chautauqua County. Eventually I’ll be able to work from home once I learn the ropes. And there’s room for more hours, if I had more hours to give.
EVEN BETTER?! Early last week, HWMMS accepted a full-time IT position with a “BIG A$$” company in Buffalo. (HURRAH! And there was much rejoicing!)
Which means I can untie myself from being the face of an organization and focus on being *me* with my own business. I choose my work. I choose my hours. I choose, me.

All my life I’ve worked for nonprofits. Now, I’m working for…clients and businesses and friends I choose. What a long, strange trip it’s been.
THIS IS MY YEAR TO GROW. New Year & New Jobs!
Time to start saying YES.
