All Things Garden
The greatest fine art of the future will be the making of a comfortable living from a small piece of land. β Abraham Lincoln
All things garden, gardening, landscaping, plants, culinary and medicinal herbs, flowers, fruits and vegetables. I might not always have a green thumb, but I’m having a lot of fun homesteading and experimenting. 99% organic. My husband even set up an indoor greenhouse area for me to play with! There’s just something about getting my hands in the earth that find irresistible. And NOTHING tastes better than food you grow on your own, you can quote me on that one.
I didn’t mean <or more likely remember> to plant wee pumpkins among the (since removed) cucumbers but…there they are. And I love them. π§‘
I transplanted the numerous perpetual spinach vines into SIX hanging pots. They are so eccentric and wonderfully perfect. One of my long-term garden goals was to get this…
Process all the things! βCorn, Tomato Sauce and Chicken/Corn Stock. Concord Grapes! <will I leave as juice or make pie?> Vodka Infusions – Grape, Cucamelon & Elderberry. Mandarin…
Lunch. Everything fresh from the garden! I made a Cucamelon Cottage Cheese Tzatziki Dip. HWMMS put it on top of our tomatoes. Sooooo good
Oops. (Not.) I did it again! Got some more seeds in the ground before the π§οΈ. Sweet Corn. Sweet Potatoes. Russet Potatoes. Cucumbers. Borage. Radishes. Chard. Lettuce. Bok…
December 29th. There’s supposed to be snow. My little baby bok choy leftover from the autumn is apparently under stress and going to seed. Sigh. It was gorgeous…
From the garden. I went out looking for salad greens. I ended up pulling 125 “volunteer” garlic sprouts that were left behind and found a few green onions….
Pretty Purple Pea Pods on the Porch. Check out how ridiculous the porch peas are…stretching wayyyy out towards the sun. π
Latest herbal tea concoction. Borage & Pineapple Sage w/ Lemon & Honey. Pineapple Sage is my favorite.
I really thought we harvested all the garlic scapes, um look what we found today!
Harvesting time! First round of oregano (making ALL THE OREGANO OIL THIS YEAR) thyme, purple sage, pineapple sage (one of my most favorite tea flavors) and round 3…
Baby Bok Choy is the cutest. Started to bolt…time to pick! Also a wee bit of Tong Ho.
Salad Garden (w/ one rogue Valerian plant under the porch!)
I can’t wait to see this garden patch grow!
Chive Blossom Vinegar. I swear it’s never enough. I need more.
Oh how I love the medicinal her garden.
Um. Ummmmm. Garlic scapes literally appeared overnight. Ok, maybe over two nights. It’s only June 1st!!! I’m still drying and processing the green garlic I thinned recently! Anyone…
Drying the blossoms for infused vinegar and the stalks grinding into powder. Oh and this bounty – isn’t even from the patch in the photo. π
Green Garlic and Radishes. The house is about to smell soooooooooo good. π§ π§
Big Leaf Tong Ho Chrysanthemum. Can eat the greens! And flowers.
Green Spring Garlic anyone? Otherwise known as my least favorite garden task…thinning. This is from one of three patches. Our garlic WILL GROW BIG AND STRONG THIS YEAR….
Medicinal Herb Garden. Looking GOOD. These are all perennials! (Finally, some success!) That wee patch I circled is MARJORAM. And I separated it and ended up with about…
Last night when HWMMS came home from work I went to hug him and he paused… “What?” “You’re covered with dirt, I love it.” “But you hate dirty…
Another garden plot weeded. So glad to see some of the medicinals *finally* taking hold! YESSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS! Lemon Balm, Lovage, Meadowsweet, Comfrey, Arnica, Pennyroyal, Cleavers, Yarrow, St. John…
I know it’s probably silly, but indoor container gardening success makes me happy. I need to do much more of this in the off season, you know, 6…
I finally organized the seeds. There are about 20? bigger boxes and 50? smaller boxes and at least 20 packages of peppers and tomatoes. And (not shown) maybe…
THE ENDLESS WEEDING BEGINS! I was happy to oblige though, the herb garden was calling out my name. Oh wet, fertile filled with worms and chickweed garden plot,…
