FeedMore WNY running low on food, appeals for donations

“Since March 16, FeedMore, formerly the Food Bank of Western New York, has distributed 1.5 million pounds of food to pantries in Erie, Niagara, Chautauqua and Cattaraugus counties. That’s a 41% increase over the same 30-day period last year, according to Shick.

In addition, the agency ships 27,600 meals per week to its Meals on Wheels clients. That’s a 26% increase, Shick said.”

PLEASE DONATE IF YOU CAN — ANY AMOUNT HELPS!

I donated $27 (it’s my number, it’s my thing…and no, it’s not a lot but it’s something.)

CAN I GET 10 of my friends to donate $27?

Another easy way to support FeedMore WNY is to purchase your annual hanging baskets and flowers through their Plant Sale! They have 46 different options to choose from (I had to hold myself back, I’m supposed to plant things I can EAT not just the pretty things. BUT MARIGOLDS help keep away pests and well, those hanging baskets are gorgeous AND FOR A GOOD CAUSE!

URGENT! Volunteers are needed immediately to help with COVID-19 response

And as always, if you are able to VOLUNTEER YOUR TIME. Oh my goodness, the Meals on Wheels program is so worth your time. (NOT to take away from the volunteer opportunities at the Food Bank of course, they need help too!)

I’m sooooooooooooooooo looking forward to the day I can get an antibody test and find out if I had the COVID-19 already. Because then I can spend time doing Meals on Wheels or sorting food. Right now, I’m in perpetual limbo!

And as an aside – THESE STORIES IN THE NEWS LATELY KILL ME. We have GOT to get it together and get food where needed. Not to mention, the truth about the small farms out there. Heartbreaking.

New York’s agriculture sectors reeling under the weight of coronavirus

Many upstate farms are small, run by a handful of family members. Some farmers are living in day-to-day fear that one family member getting the virus could affect how much work gets done each day on a farm – thereby affecting the flow of food and beverages to family kitchens, essential businesses still in operation, food pantries or restaurants struggling to survive in the new takeout and delivery-only era.
