The first book I finished reading in 2011 is Freedom: A Novel by Jonathan Franzen. I bought this one from B&N in hardcover because I just had to read it that very moment. And read it that very moment I did, I finished in two nights. Not to mention, FREEDOM duh!

I really liked this story. I gave it 4/5 stars on Goodreads.

I’m one of those people who really enjoy reading Franzen. Not in the “all hail the king of author god” way that seems to be the mainstream pitch (and/or backlash actually.) When it comes to his writing, he sure knows how to tell a story. Raw, real, sad, compelling. No, you aren’t meant to fall in love with the characters, but they make sense. If you liked The Corrections (which I also LOVED, in that make me cry and too painful to read and close to home at times kind of way….) you should pick up this book.

The craziest thing of all? I actually LIKED the ending. And that is a rarity. (Don’t want to spoil it, but I guess I didn’t quite see it coming together the way it did to finish…which was a nice surprise for me.)
