Tell Governor Hochul & State Lawmakers – Fully Fund Hunger Relief!
USDA cuts hit food banks, risking hunger for low-income Americans -“Food banks are handling unprecedented demand as U.S. hunger rates climb after years of decline. In 2023, 13.5% of Americans struggled at some point to secure enough food, the highest rate in nearly a decade, according to the most recent USDA data. In rural America, the hunger rate is even higher, at 15.4%, the data shows”
Cuts to Federal Food Aid Are Severing a Lifeline for Natural Disaster Survivors – “The USDA has ended future rounds of funding for the Local Food Purchase Assistance Program and the Local Food for Schools Cooperative Agreement Program. The two programs were slated to dole out $1.13 billion…to emergency food providers, childcare centers, and schools.”
Tariffs will make it even more expensive for Americans to eat healthy – “Most tomatoes, peppers, and cucumbers consumed in the US are grown in Mexico and Canada. The US imports virtually all of its avocados, a key source of fiber and healthy fat, from Mexico, alongside large amounts of tropical fruits like bananas, and berries like raspberries and strawberries.”
