Welcome to my Garden Update 2012 play-by-play!
Our slug problem was taken care of by handpicking, staking everything in sight and Sluggo. Been periodically using Insect Killing Soap to stop bugs from munching (which works pretty well) and recently bought Neem Oil to try to get rid of the heavy eaters those darn Japanese Beetles. THEY LOVE THE SOYBEANS!
I’ve used Tomato Fertilizer Spikes and lots and lots and lots and lots of bags of organic soil mixes and compost/dirt bags. So many bags of poopy dirt. So many bags of dirt. (We REALLY should have just bought a truckload from a local farmer—next year, next year.) And I’m on my hands and knees weeding everything in sight and turning the soil every other day. I realize this is probably the only time I will ever have the chance to have such a clean garden, so I’ve been a little obsessive. I want it to look nice.
GARDEN FAIL! Carrots. This is the 2nd time this season I tried to plant them from seed and NOTHING. Ok, not technically there are TWO wee seedlings sprouted. I’m having NO LUCK with them this year.
