Whoosh! Time for a quick January Review.
This is what happens when you:
- Start blogging every day (for the most part) again?
- Get your hair chopped off?
Above are my monthly blog stats for 2019. AND THEN BAM! Look at January 2020. That’s 4 times higher than my biggest month in 2019. Well, well.
Now. Back to those 3 Words. The 2020 Goals.
PEACE
Damn. There sure was a reason why I heard the word PEACE in my head at the beginning of the year. HELLO AMERICA? I mean what the actual fuck. I thought, perhaps, maybe there would be a glimmer of hope (politically) with the turning of the calendar year into 2020. WRONG. SO WRONG. I guess my initial feeling towards choosing this word PEACE has turned into wanting a peaceful America and better world.
With that regard in mind, the FIRST THING I did in the New Year was switch my political party from unaffiliated (where I’ve been for the last 8 years after the Republican Party left me behind to the world of the Democrats. I even attended my first Concord Democrat Committee Meeting and will probably collect petitions to be a member of the Erie County Democratic Committee for 2020. (I was a member of the Erie County Republican Committee a million years ago back when I was in law school. I feel the need to balance out that political karma.) I signed a petition to get Elizabeth Warren on the ballot for NYS. And I signed up to be an election poll worker once again. I did this YEARS ago when I was a Republican, back in the days where you had the voting booth.
Wanna join me at a meeting? Volunteer? Sign up as an inspector? YOU KNOW WHERE TO FIND ME!
Wanna change your voter registration (you have until February 14th!) WANNA REGISTER TO VOTE (THE ANSWER IS YES) (you have until April 3rd.)
ART (& CULTURE)
Well, I didn’t PAINT. Yet. I will, I swear I’m itching to paint. BUT I did a 2020 Vision Board Collage with my artsy friend Cat! It’s been a while since doing a vision board, so I know for sure my depression is finally lifting.
I did do lots of blogging this month. No writing though. Boo, And I appreciated OTHER people’s art by wearing many of my pretty, pretty, handmade, gifted pendants I’ve collected over the years.
I’m also going to include the books I read this month under this heading. Yeah, changing it to ART and CULTURE.
Somehow? I read (*listened to) 6 books in January. HOLY HECK I read 11 books total in 2019. This is an incredible start and way more the person I used to be, the one who actually read books. (And yeah, a lot of them are political.)
- Reasons to Stay Alive by Matt Haig
- Outer Order, Inner Calm: Declutter & Organize to Make More Room for Happiness by Gretchen Rubin
- Shortest Way Home: One Mayor’s Challenge and a Model for America’s Future by Pete Buttigieg
- The Truths We Hold: An American Journey by Kamala Harris
- Fahrenheit 451 by Ray Bradbury
- Bus Stop by William Inge
MOVIES? HWMMS made me watch The Joker. Which is a movie I had ZERO desire to watch but ended up being INCREDIBLE. Exquisitely disturbing, the lighting, the music, the story…Joaquin Phoenix is phenomenal, I couldn’t take my eyes off him. In the same night, we watched Downton Abbey. (Go Branson!) and Ad Astra (a big fat meh.)
Oh, one last thing? I signed up for this. (And watched and sang along to the movie…)
FRIENDS
This makes me so happy. I’ve specifically scheduled lunch dates with my closest friends and family, this is a priority this year.
Started out the new year with an open house for Springville area friends.
My first lunch date, my cousin Brenda at Towne Restaurant (who happens to be celebrating a birthday today! HAPPY BIRTHDAY!) I had an unexpected evening with reenacting friends, the Henning Family (my sister-wife!) And I met up with MEESH and met her new beau at Expo Market.
The ITOWNY cast party was canceled (again) because of pending weather and me and HWMMS being sick (again.) But we managed to get the It’s a Wonderful Life gang over last weekend for some fun and games. Which meant extra time with the lovely Cat for me! I also did a work thing, but it was time spent with Jamila to chat so I’m counting that as friend time too.
Man, no wonder January felt like a lifetime! Let’s see what February brings.
