I blame/thank Jessie Penguin and Brenda for getting me in this loop tonight…And these delicious peach beverages. No Day But Today!

End of the work day – I needed some RENT in my life. While searching on Spotify I couldn’t find the Original Broadway Cast soundtrack — in order — so I headed to YouTube and stumbled upon THIS.

Oh, this. RENT – the final performance on Broadway in 2008.

I had headphones on. I had planned to sing while sipping some peach deliciousness and playing with plants on the porch. But as soon as I looked at the screen, I was completely captivated.

This cast is GOOD. Damn. Good.

I’ve always loved the character of Mark – he’s exactly my go-to physical attraction type. Roger, on the other hand, is the opposite. Blonde. Just not my thing. David Bowie blonde? Even more nope.

But this Roger… intoxicating. I couldn’t look away. So, so, so, so soooooooo good. That voiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiicccccccce. (I’ve now learned that Will Chase also played Luke Wheeler on Nashville, one of the few TV shows I actually watched back in the day.)

My other HUGE character crushes: Collins (obviously) and Joanne. Swoon. What I wouldn’t give to play Joanne. Hot, hot, hot. Alas, I’m neither a mezzo soprano nor a dancer. But after a few peach beers? I am Joanne. TAKE ME OR LEAVE ME!

Other dream musical character roles… Madame Thénardier in Les Mis and Ursula in The Little Mermaid. SPEAKING OF URSULA – Ooooh – found this in the archives. HAHAHAHAHA!

It’s wild to think that at 51 years old, I’m here waxing poetic about my love for a musical that’s almost 30 years old. The equivalent would be 21 year old me in love with Man of La Mancha– oh wait, that was me.

I’ve definitely fallen out of the loop with the musical world over the past 10 years (or more) I should probably do something about that. Starting, perhaps, with finally giving Hamilton a few rotations.
