Homemade Sourdough Bagels! WOOT! Tis my first time. I’m a very proud sourdough mama.
Last night when I DID NOT WANT TO GO TO SLEEP because of the BIGGEST BADDEST SUNDAY SCARY OF MY LIFETIME – I found kneading and pounding and kneading dough extremely therapeutic.
And I love so much how beautiful the dough looked this morning. POOF!
I may have made them a little thick – but mmmmmm. Will be doing this one again and again. Hopefully they freeze well. TBD since I gave a bunch of these away to friends today. I can mark – MAKE A NEW RECIPE off the end-of-the-world-as-we-know-it list.
Another tiny win – the homemade mac & cheese I made became mac & goop – more like a creamy crock of hot cheese dip. I think I cooked the chickpea penne pasta too long and well, it basically disintegrated while baking – thickening up the sauce, but leaving only — (delicious, full fat, artery clogging) creamy cheese goop. What’s a Jenny to do?
SOUPIFY IT!
Into the crackpot went the goop. I added broccoli, scallions and ham. And about 8 cups of not quite ready but still flavorful turkey stock that was bubbling on the stovetop.
BOOM. SOUP. Disregard the sad slice of not quite there yet sourdough sandwich bread. I’ve never been able to get the right consistency. this one was close – but the rise was a little out of control and when I went to pinch off the dough overflowing the bread pans – deflation. Oops.
Oh Just Another Monday…
Nothing else much to report on – single digit temperatures. More snow. (We’ve had more snow this season than the last two combined, methinks!) SNOW DAY tomorrow.
And then there’s the silly little exuberant speech this afternoon – as reported by the formerly reputable Washington Post.
Oh Just Another Monday…
BUT wait! Crap! I did not have the ADL DEFENDING A NAZI SALUTE IN BROAD DAYLIGHT on my “End of America Dystopian Bingo Card.”
Sigh.
Oh Just Another Monday…

I might have made the mistake of checking back in on the news on this Monday and now I feel like vomiting/screaming/setting fires and kicking down doors.
CAN’T WAIT TO SEE WHAT TUESDAY BRINGS.
