Why We’re Taking to the Streets on April 5th: Courage is contagious—and public, peaceful resistance is how it spreads – “April 5 isn’t just a protest—it’s a recruitment drive. There are millions of people watching this crisis unfold, waiting for a reason to jump in. We need to show them the resistance is real.”
Fighting Back: A Citizen’s Guide to Resistance
- “MARCH! The purpose, a Democratic strategist explained to me, is to bring like-minded people together into resistance networks; to attract publicity that will draw new people into the movement; and, through that same publicity, to alert other politicians that failing to oppose Trump will cost them support.”
- Explore Choose Democracy’s interactive Choose Your Own Adventure activity, which asks you to “guide us towards a better, more humane democracy.” In “What can I do to fight this coup?,” the group offers drop-down menus of resistance techniques arranged by level of difficulty. It also provides training agendas on everything from de-escalation to mutual aid.
- Study Indivisible’s Practical Guide to Democracy on the Brink, which shares strategies for defending the democratic process against authoritarian creep and a list of tactics constituents can use to pressure their elected officials.
The Opposition Is Rising To Save America– “What you do now matters. It will take all of us, but we can build the movement that saves America and wrests power from Trump’s toxic grasp. We are the cavalry. All of us. One by one getting more Americans to see the danger and join us to save our country.”
How to Think (and Act) Like a Dissident Movement – “Winning in 2026 will not be sufficient to stop the authoritarian push; but it is necessary. And the only way to win is people power. That’s it. No institutions are going to save us. The courts won’t stop the authoritarians. Corporate interests won’t stop them. The Democratic party won’t stop them, either.”

How I’m defining hope right now– “Feeling less alone or feeling validated by someone else’s experiences is hopeful. And that’s so true, isn’t it? One of the reasons connecting with other people who live a life like mine is so important to me is because it alleviates some of the weighted loneliness I carry — an emotion and experience that, in my opinion, actively dissolves hope.”
Plant a Seed, Change the World – “To be sure, we face a challenge that is new in our nation’s history. A storm is coming, and we should prepare. But part of how we stay strong is through these small acts. One tree can’t withstand a hurricane, but a grove of trees may. Storms require us to come together as a community to rethink, restore, and reinvent.”
