Tomorrow will be a shameful day – But some reasons for reassurance – Robert Reich

We will come to the aid of our communities. We will protect the vulnerable. We will resist Trump’s efforts to prosecute his political enemies..We will not compromise with fascism. We will continue to fight for the rule of law, for social justice, for equal opportunity, for democracy
.
‘Head Like A Hole’ – Noel Casler

Fascism cannot be our future and we must focus on preventing it in every way we can.

We will prevail but we have to get busy.

Create, educate, communicate, inspire. In any and every way you can.

An act of kindness is transformative. Practice as much of it as possible.

Rebellion begins with the spirit – only light can drive out darkness.

In the end love always wins. I truly believe this with all of my heart.

I wish you peace. And resilience.

Letters from an American – January 19, 2025 – Heather Cox Richardson

Dr. King told the audience that if God had let him choose any era in which to live, he would have chosen the one in which he had landed. “Now, that’s a strange statement to make,” King went on, “because the world is all messed up. The nation is sick. Trouble is in the land; confusion all around…. But I know, somehow, that only when it is dark enough, can you see the stars.”

It Is MLK Day. Do Not Despair. This Year Especially, We Have Work To Do – Sherrilyn Ifill

The dream of the historic inauguration so many of us imagined today would have truly been a dream. But dreams are for those who have the luxury of sound sleep. The work of democracy building is fueled by snatches of rest and oblivion. We must be ever watchful.

Service work is important. But let us also use this day to begin the process of reckoning – of facing our own contributions to this moment as a step towards doing the national reckoning work that must come ahead of our ability to build a strong, enduring, healthy democracy.-

Resisting Monday’s Events – 18 Things to do instead – Runa Troy

I will not be supporting the nonsense in D.C. on Monday. Instead these are things I will be doing instead, as well as a few more for you to consider doing (or not doing as the case may be)

  • Wearing black. I am in mourning for my country. Symbolic signs are resistance.
  • Plan a garden. Or plan to grow some of your own food. Taking control of your resources is resistance.
  • Take a nap. Rest is doing. Rest is resistance.
