“Sleep is my lover now, my forgetting, my opiate, my oblivion.” — Audrey Niffenegger, The Time Traveler’s Wife
Time for the 2nd part of my Sleep Study at the Buffalo Medical Group.
The first one – well, let’s just say I didn’t sleep enough to even consider trying to fit a CPAP machine. And not because I was connected to wires in a strange place, but because I DON’T SLEEP WELL.
Hence, needing to come back – this time I learned about the different mask options. Turns out the least invasive nose mask worked 100% for my bean-y little nose. (The other mask that covered the mouth I would have needed extra small! I’m not extra small in anything!)
I acclimated immediately to the mask – easy to breathe through nose (I do for breathing exercises…) Since I had been up that morning at 4:45 am for the 6 am work shift – and had one of the most stressful days at work — and then took Harley Boo to the vet (everything is fine, thank goodness) —- AND NOT TAKING A NAP (thank you MoonWife for keeping me up…) it was rather easy to fall asleep once I turned off the light around 11:15pm.
I slept.
I fell asleep (I think – ) within 10-15 minutes. I could hardly feel the mask – although I thought it was funny to feel the air coming out of the wee slit in front and the top of the band on my head. I didn’t wake up for the bathroom, I didn’t toss and turn. Well, I did turn, once, and that bumped the mask and the technician readjusted me. At that time I took a quick glance at the clock and laughed out loud when I saw it was only 1:30ish…I would have thought it was almost 5am.
SLEEP.
OMG. SLEEP.
When the technician woke me up a little after 5am I was so sad, I would have stayed in that bed sleeping – for – for – days if allowed. She told me I was an excellent patient.
Now, I wait for the doctor to order the prescription for the CPAP machine and I fear, I wait even longer (months) to actually receive said machine.
One of these days, I will sleep. I can’t wait.
