  • Deputies are stopping Hispanic drivers for minor, unprovable traffic violations like veering left of center, then handing them over to Border Patrol agents who are sometimes already at the scene. In other cases, immigration agents act on anonymous tips and stake out homes. They follow migrant workers from work sites to restaurants.
  • Undercover officers in ski masks show up at dairy farms in unmarked carThey split up families. They take children from schools, even when they turn out to be U.S. citizens.
  • U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement, or ICE, announced April 4 that it had arrested 133 “alien offenders” during a weeklong operation in Upstate New York. The news release casts those detained as criminals, but only 20 had previous convictions.\

The Mystery of ICE’s Unidentifiable Arrests

  • By the middle of March, the Trump Administration had claimed to have arrested nearly thirty-three thousand undocumented immigrants across the country.
  • ICE officers were reportedly required to meet new arrest quotas each day, from a few hundred to between twelve and fifteen hundred nationwide.
  • In the past two and a half months, ICE has ended a long-standing policy discouraging arrests at schools, places of worship, and hospitals; its officers have also allegedly entered residences without warrants, arrested U.S. citizens by mistake, and refused to identify themselves while whisking people away on the streets of American cities.
  • By seeking to “liberate” Germans from a globalized world order, the Nazi government sent the national economy careening backwards—and drove up the price of eggs 600 percent.

  • Among the $1 million donors to the inauguration were JPMorgan Chase, Anheuser-Busch Companies, Nvidia, Blackstone, Google, Adobe, General Motors, Uber, Boeing, Toyota, Comcast, Meta Platforms, Amazon, McDonald’s, Delta Air Lines and Johnson & Johnson, according to the inaugural filing. Apple CEO Tim Cook gave $1 million personally, the filings show.
  • The donations from McDonald’s, Delta and Johnson & Johnson marked the first time those companies have given to an inaugu ration in the last decade.
