Today. HWMMS was going to drop me off and pick me up when it was over. Instead, as I stood watching everyone getting ready to march, I get a phone call asking “where are you?” Because he decided to come join me. As if the tears weren’t already falling…

HWMMS isn’t the protesting type. But he loves me and wants to be an ally. He might’ve also noticed my tears starting to fall on the ride there, right when Amy and BFF messaged about heading to their protest. I needed that boost of resistance injected straight into my veins at that very moment* –  That’s what BFFs are for, right?

*Aside for another post/moment – but I was not in a good place today. Feeling very, very, very alone in the world…despite thousands of mutuals surrounding me.

I somewhat regret not getting a quick video of HWMMS shaking his booty to the chant “This Is What Democracy Looks Like” – maybe next time, because THERE WILL BE A NEXT TIME.

Peaceful and actually much quieter than I anticipated. Watching the sea of people marching past us at the entrance back into Niagara Square was humbling. All sorts of people. All sorts of issues. All the things – in SOLIDARITY. Oh and I saw lots of masks. So many masks.

The American people have risen up and they are PISSED AS HELL.

  • Notes from Indivisible: MILLIONS HIT THE STREETS TODAY! There’ve been protests in red states, blue states, purple states, DC, and US territories. Outside the United States, too, with protesters showing solidarity in the UK, Portugal, Canada, France, Germany, Greece, and the Netherlands.
  • You Can Stop Asking Where the Mass Opposition Is. It’s Everywhere– The message is: crowd large. A lot of politicians and administrators and business leaders, in bowing to Trump, have drawn confidence and comfort from the perceived vibe shift. Events like this puncture that delusion. They are an unavoidable illustration of outrage. Trump may have gotten a lot undone in the last three months, but the opposition never went away, and it may finally be emboldened.
  • Millions Stood Up: April 5 Hands Off Day of Action “but what really exhilarated me was to see the turnout in reddest America–Utah, Nebraska, Missouri, Indiana, Iowa, Idaho–and small communities not known for their protests. People stood up for their principles in the cold in Alaska and the rain in the Northeast and the heat in St. Augustine Florida”

Democratic leadership: you have the people’s mandate. Today showed that. We got your back. FIGHT.

“We must always take sides. Neutrality helps the oppressor, never the victim. Silence encourages the tormentor, never the tormented. Sometimes we must interfere.”

Elie Wiesel (1928-2016), writer and Auschwitz survivor
