Full Employment Modeling Boyfriend vs. Unemployed Girlfriend Reality
My darling John is working hard, trying to figure out unrealistic full employment economic equations and other fancy numerical problems. I am here trying to think of the last time I was considered unemployed and NOT a working member of society? Oh yeah, NEVER!
A recap of the last 15 years coming up.
I babysat and picked cherries at Walkers Fruit Basket for two summers before turning 16. I made all my money for school clothes. I also ended up getting into the family’s good graces and the following year dated the oldest of the prominent Walker Grandsons!
At 16 I worked at Sullivan’s Charbroil…and then after I was laid off I went to Ponderosa Steakhouse, I worked here through High School…along with the cherry farm, although once I was dating Richy I am not sure how much WORK was accomplished that Summer, smooches in the cherry trees…good first love memories.
College Jobs: When I went to college I transferred to the Ponderosa in Meadville. After leaving Pondo I worked at the Meadville McDonalds…and then Sandalinis Bistro.
Work study gigs- Active Aging Senior Center, English Department, Computing Services and the YMCA.
Other (short short lived) summer gigs in Meadville: Hawaiian Palace (for a day?) Chestnut Street Station (a week?) and the Meadville Cinema (maybe a month?)
And Summer gigs back home in Fredonia included: McDonalds and TOPS Friendly Markets (overnight cashier—probably my least favorite job, did NOT like being a cashier…I was a restaurant person)
Ok. So I held at least two if not sometimes three part-time jobs all through college. Then I graduated and went to Raleigh. In Raleigh I admit, I did not have a job at first. I was unemployed for about a month…that is what happens when you jump in a car with high school friends, a map, a magic 8 ball and hopes for an apartment and a way to pay the bills…
But then Ruby Tuesday came around. I worked there as my regular job. I also worked for a few weeks, or days in some accounts…at Cooker Restaurant, Barnes and Nobles Cafe, Wake County After School Program, and temp work for the Wake County Public School System.
I moved back to Buffalo, and worked at Ruby Tuesday. And a week or so at Perkins. And then *the evil agency* called and I worked there for 5 years. (2 years as a child care overnight supervisor, 1 year as a child care counselor, and 2 years as the WAY coordinator in the recreation department) I pretty much stopped the second job game at this time because I picked up massive amounts of overtime—except I did work a real legal job at Legal Services for the Elderly and Disabled for a year and a half.
Holy JOBS Batman! And now I sit here, without work. I know many consider full-time school a job, however I always worked while being a student. I am interested in checking out several volunteer opportunities…at Neighborhood Legal Services they need law student interns to assist people in filing for public benefits…you know since the applications are insane. Although in the beginning of the semester they were looking for paid interns at $10 per hour. Oh well. I also know one of the women who works in the office from days ago working with BPLIP (Buffalo Public Interest Law Program)
I also saw a notice in Artvoice for something called “Citizen Express” They are looking for volunteers to assist immigrants in filling out applications to become a citizen. Pretty cool idea.
And classes start next week…phew.
I have all this other stuff, I mean A LOT of it, saved on disk to add to the blog, however the disk is not working with the computers at school right now. Blah. MUCH MUCH more blog later…
