Crown of Thorns.

I had no idea this plant existed until I saw it in the back corner of my friend Cat’s house while visiting.

“Holy cow, what is that ginormous plant?”

The plant started out much smaller and over the years just took over – with very little care – it apparently really really liked that corner of the house.  Last Fall, we adopted this big beauty “Crowny” and added her to our collection of pool room plants. I was quite hesitant that HWMMS would say NO WHAT ON EARTH ARE WE GOING TO DO WITH SUCH A HUGE PLANT – but Cat worked her magic and he fell in love.

I mean, it sits in front of one of the sliding glass doors – which are locked of course, but just in case – PROTECTION right? I mean LOOK AT THOSE THORNS!

Crowny is thriving – pretty pink flowers in March. I do plan on propagating cuttings once it gets a little warmer – I sooooooo hope to get a bunch more from this plant – one to share with Cat’s mom – maybe a foot tall instead of 5 feet.

Ultimate plant goals – would love to have at least three more of this size plant along the edge of the pool room sliding doors. That might take about 10 years of growth – or so. Wish me luck!
