Books Read – April 2023

15 Books for April!

59 books so far in 2023.

2023 Reading Challenge

I started a reread of the Little House series. Reread Persuasion by Jane Austen.

Discovered Brené Brown (WHY DID IT TAKE ME SO LONG?)

REALLY ENJOYED – Spare by Prince Harry (to my surprise, I thought I heard all the things in the book in the media and would be bored, but no. Nope. If you are a little interested in the Royals, I’d say it’s a must read.

Enjoyed –

  • Hang the Moon by Jeanette Walls (first half way better than second…)
  • Normal People by Sally Rooney (first half way better than second…)
  • Go Set a Watchman by Harper Lee

MY MUST READ RECOMMENDATION FOR EVERYONE –

The Kneeling Man: My Father’s Life as a Black Spy Who Witnessed the Assassination of Martin Luther King Jr. by Leta McCollough Seletzky

Wow. I can’t imagine – having this family story, uncovering this family story, telling and sharing this family story and doing it with such grace and wonderful storytelling. Weaving together the many lines of history – delving into so much research – and processing all this information not only for the reader, but more importantly for — herself.

“All his life, freedom had been his lodestar, the goal of his strivings. It wasn’t an abstract concept, but something real that could be felt and experienced, like lungs filled with air and vegetables sprouting from earth. It was patched clothes, going to school, and playing baseball on Saturdays. And it was also duties, being responsible to others. As simple as these things might appear, they hadn’t been easy to attain and keep. It took community, order, and truth, which kept him alive, built him up, and gave him something to work for.”

Aside – LETA if (when) your publicity tour someday brings you to lil’ ol’ Buffalo, NY you are most welcome to stay at Weber Wonderland! After you finish all those fancy media outlets of course – YOU DESERVE ALL THE ACCOLADES.

I’m curious what you thought of Go Set a Watchman. I read that a few years ago, and I think I’m still chewing on it.
