COVID-19 SWAB TEST (also, ow!) and ANTIBODY TEST. Completed!

  • 1st Doctor Appt – March 10th
  • 2nd Doctor Appt (Phone) – April 24th
  • TESTED! – April 29th

I’ve been hesitant about making an appointment after hearing tests are available at WellNow Urgent Care for people who think they have been exposed to the virus. I’m currently not feeling great with breathing, what if I catch some germ while there? Do I want to go to a place where sick people are going? What if what I have isn’t COVID-19 and I get it while going to the doctor? Should I just wait?

So many what if’s. Not sure how I decided to pull the trigger, but I did. I signed up online for an appointment and went this afternoon.

I shouldn’t have worried, everything was in tip-top shape and order. I called from the parking lot to check in. The nurse called me back, asked a few questions and then told me to come inside to wait. There was NO ONE in the large waiting room and one person at the desk doing insurance information. Once that person was done, they called me over and I gave them my ID and insurance card and she asked me a few more questions. AND THEN she asked me to go back out to my car and someone would come out to me to finish the questions and hand back my information. I think this is because, while I asked for the antibody test, since I am presenting symptoms (shortness of breath and heavy chest) still, they wanted to be extra cautious.

So back to my car. And then the nurse came out. And asked more questions. And then said as soon as a room is open they will call me in.

Once in the room (again, no one was in the waiting room…) I found out they wanted to test me for the antibodies, and to see if I have an active infection. Which I suppose makes sense. What if the antibodies came back negative, but I have the virus now? I don’t want to go back for another test.

I had blood drawn for the antibodies test and of course, for the virus the swab test, which wasn’t pleasant.

AND THEN they also wanted to do a chest x-ray.

Here, I thought I’d be in and out with a quick draw of blood!

The results of my chest x-ray were clear, which was very reassuring. No pnuenomia! (So what one EARTH is causing this weighted blanket feeling on my chest again since the weekend? Arugh…)

Now I wait. 3-5 days for the results.

I’m so freaking tired after being out this afternoon, time for a nap.
