I took the dogs out and sat on the porch and then went back to bed. My brain wants me to get up and make beignets and coffee, my body wants to be in bed.

Alright, I’m up.

I spent the entire afternoon doing seeds and transplants while HWMMS put the lawn mower back together and cut the part of the lawn that isn’t still a total swamp pit. And then, it started to rain. Our timing was perfect!

How did I end up with so many varieties of squashes and pumpkins? My yearly neverending question. Ooh, I also planted strawberry plants in the mushroom bed. Companion planting. And you can see our 60 baby tomato plants still yearning for more growth on the balcony.

I’m pretty sure I spent my entire stimulus check on seeds, plants, flowers, berry bushes, fruit trees, medicinal herb roots, mushroom spawn, compost, mulch, potting soil…

Oh and a bit on Salad Cream.

Alright, I’ll organize the pantry and FINALLY put away these excellent additions I ordered from World Market. While searching for a Tom Yum quick solution, I was led here…and then found other items to add to my cart and…

OH MY GOD WHERE HAS SALAD CREAM BEEN ALL MY LIFE?

What is Salad Cream you ask?

Well, HWMMS found this video…which really doesn’t explain what it is but has an excellent quote.

“The miracle of SALAD CREAM which is not mayonaise, it’s salad creme, it’s something altogether different.  We don’t know exactly what it is…but it is superb.”

Yes. It is not mayonaise. And it’s not Miracle Whip. It is cole slaw dressing gold.  And I need to have more in my pantry ASAP. It has a tangy Miracle Whipesque sort of vinegary but more eggy flavour and maybe a bit of mustard? even though I’m not a fan of mustard, it works in this recipe.

HWMMS and I had a little too much conversation about our new found love affair with Salad Cream. These are pandemic times you know. Self-isolation must be getting to us, nyah, who am I kidding, we would totally talk about Salad Cream for hours. Pretty sure we made a few song lyrics and perhaps a haiku too.

Mmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm. If you like creamy goopy goodness, I highly recommend. However, tis a splurge, comes from overseas. Sadly, we already used a bottle for slaw. I only have one more. (And six waiting in an online cart.)

Salad Cream is Life Changing. I never want to make cole slaw without it.

Ok, now that my Ode to Expensive Condiment is complete…

I also decided to start my first SCOBY (I ordered a Kombucha starter kit too.)

AND I finished my first attempt at dandelion wine. I loosely used this recipe.

Please make sure to look at the gorgeous handcarved wooden spoon made by my friend and Foundry instructor Wales Hollow Wood Butcher. That red stripe from the Box Elder wood..I couldn’t resist!

One more day of Threesday. I still have much work to do! (Scotch eggs!)
